"Passing the Torch"

In October of 1986 an Education Committee was formed with these initial aims:

1. Expose the local area Junior High School and Senior High Band members to Dixieland Jazz Music.

2. Create a Rivercity JAZZ Society Scholarship.

This idea was expanded to include a sponsorship to the Sacramento Jazz Camp held each year in that city.

Since the beginning, the Rivercity JAZZ Society has provided over $15,000.00 toward scholarships and jazz camp instruction for over 40 students.
