COMING ATTRACTION:

The Spirit of '29 - Eliot Kenin; Leader/banjo/guitar.

This month we have a band that has never been to Redding before. They have been playing traditional jazz in the San Francisco Bay Area since the early 80's. Since that time they have played in more festivals, hotels and restaurants than they can remember. The venues have included the Sacramento Jubilee, Dixieland Monterey, the Hyatt Hotel in Seoul, Korea and Pac Bell Park for the San Francisco Giants. They love to play in parades and festivals on their Model A Flatbed truck. The leader, Eliot Kenin is a banjo player and singer, who has been playing as a single act since the 50's and has led bands since the 60's. He also plays solo ragtime guitar. Mike Reilly; trumpet/vocals is the front man who recently returned from Germany where he was living and playing for several years. He is also an enclyclopedia of information on all styles of Amercian music from the beginning of jazz to the present. Joe Sosensky; clarinet/sax plays several styles. He also teaches high school English. Bill Bardin; trombone, has been every band's choice for trombone since he replaced Turk Murphy in Lu Waters' Yerba Buena Jazz Band during WWII. Mike Harryman; tuba/bass sax has been playing trad. jazz in the Bay Area for over thirty years and has been with the Spirit for 20 years.
